Washington Area Group for the Hard of Hearing

WAGHOH is one of the oldest, local, consumer-oriented, nonprofit, volunteer organizations in the greater Metropolitan Washington Area promoting Better Communication for Hearing Impaired Persons.

Goals

  • To establish a unified and effective voice for all hearing impaired people.
  • To create public awareness pertaining to the problems and potential of people with hearing impairment
  • To promote the use of Assistive Devices and encourage the growth or related research.
  • To work in harmony with other consumer and professional organizations.
  • To offer support to our members through meetings, newsletters, workshops, and community activities.

Activities

Monthly meetings held on the Third Thursday of every other month during the school season. Meetings are at 1:15 pm in the Holiday Park Multiservice Senior Center in Wheaton, Maryland. Feature timely discussions and presentations by professionals and consumers on subjects related to hearing loss. The meetings are open to all interested persons. This season, the meetings are scheduled for
Sept 21, 2000; Nov 16, 2000; Jan 18, 2001; March 15, 2001; and May 17, 2001.

WAGHOH maintains an Assistive Listening Device demonstration room at the Holiday Park Center which is open to the public the First and Third Tuesdays at 10:00 am to Noon. The room is staffed by volunteers who can show you the various devices and let you try them. The devices are not for sale by WAGHOH, but can be purchased at The Hearing and Speech Center Demo Room over in the Wheaton Plaza South Building (map).
