One of the most frequently asked questions that we get is, "where is a high quality, hearing aid sales location near me?"

We have been reluctant to recommend anyone in the past, and have normally referred the questioner to the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) or to the manufacturer of the brand of hearing aid the question was about. However, most of the referral organizations just recommend everyone in their organization; ASHA's web site lists all of the audiologists who are members of ASHA. The same is true for AAA. But, I know from my position as chairman of Maryland's licensing board for audiologists, hearing aid dealers, and speech-language pathologists, that any profession can have poor performers. For example, not all audiologists and hearing instrument specialists (hearing aid dealers) are ethical and expert at fitting hearing aids.

But there is a real need for some way to find a good professional near you if you are considering getting hearing aids, if you are having problems with the ones you own, or especially if you just want an honest answer about what you should do about your hearing problems. So....

I'm going to ask YOU to help me create a referral list. Likewise, if you run an audiology practice or hearing aid dealership, and think that yours is the best in your area, please let me know about it. I will put together a list and publish it on this web site just as soon as I have enough names to be useful. Remember, this list will just be people's opinions, but I will ask enough questions to feel fairly certain that the professionals on the list are of high quality. And, of course, if you have a problem with someone on my list, please let me know about it, so I can check it out.
